What is an Origin?

Where you from, stranger?

A character's Origin ties in with both high concept and power themes. It is, in just a few words, the source of your powers, your origin story, the inciting incident. For superpowered characters in Empire City, this is most likely to be Avatar, or possibly Forged.

Origin is an optional trait. If the "source of your powers" happens to be "I was born an elf" then you don't have an origin in that sense. If, however, that elf made a dark pact with powers from beyond curved space they did not fully comprehend and have become something... else; now you have yourself an origin!

Origins don't cost any points and don't affect play as such, they are instead a point of roleplay and a shorthand way to explain the "why" of your character.

Can Origins mix in certain cases? Like a cybernetically altered character who altered themselves because of an accident?

My apologies for the late reply.   In short, yes. In that specific case you would be Forged. If you were a vampire with cyborganics, however, your origin would be Vampire because it's the most basic thing, the broadest category, so to speak.

Just trying to do a little better every day; occasionally succeeding.

What about people from Urth and Earth? Would their own timeline count as an Origin?
